Minister Ted Morton to Receive Urgent Call to Protect

News Advisory - FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE: December 4, 2007

Edmonton, Alberta – The Minister of the Department of Sustainable Resource Development and the lead on the Province’s new Landuse Framework initiative, Ted Morton, has agreed to publicly accept petitions demonstrating significant local support for saving Alberta’s rocky mountain foothills natural region.  Considered endangered with only 1.2% protected, immediate action is needed to save threatened species such as woodland caribou, bull trout and grizzly bear from local extinction.

 

WHO:                         Alberta Foothills Network Collaboration – includes international, national and local environmental organizations such as the Canadian Parks and Wilderness Society, the Sierra Club of Canada, the Federation of Alberta Naturalists and ForestEthics.

 

WHAT:                       Presentation of petitions and speeches from Alberta Foothills Network and the Minister of Sustainable Resource Development – Ted Morton

 

WHEN:                       TODAY - Tuesday, December 4th at noon 

 

WHERE:                    Steps of Alberta’s Legislature Building
